Series of four paintings

watercolor and acrylic on canvas

Water Witchin’ In The Ozarks is a painting series from the Mountain Mythology series, which examines and considers the connections between spiritualism, mythicism, and folk belief in relation to the physical, ecological, and cultural landscape of America. Water Witchin’ In The Ozarks features a series of four paintings of dowsing rod sticks, a type of divination and traditional folk belief practice employed in attempts to locate groundwater, on a variety of shaped canvases. Water Witchin’ In The Ozarks considers the intimate connection and magical mythicism between humanity and nature. This series of paintings examines and challenges ideas of orientation and disorientation in the form of physical, emotional, and spiritual navigation, as well as the long-withstanding traditions of folk belief in the American Southeastern mountain ranges.
